Due to life changes our Trail Life Troopmaster has had to step back. We are in need of a volunteer Troopmaster in order to continue. The Troopmaster organizes the troop leaders, oversees troop meetings. Previous outdoor experience in any capacity is encouraged. Click for more information.

The Catholic Chatt group, directed by our Basilica parishioner, Patrick Hanus, plans hiking, game nights, socials, bonfires and more throughout the year and would love for you to join them. The Church has begun a Papal Synod. In response to the invitation of our Pope and our Bishop, please visit synodsurvey.org to complete an anonymous 20-minute survey about your experiences with your local church, faith/religion and other circumstances. Catholics and non-Catholics of East Tennessee, ages 14 and up, are invited. Survey will close at 11:59pm Jan. 30. Thank you for your input.

Our RCIA candidates and catechumens have been meeting weekly since September to learn the Catholic faith. Sunday, Jan. 9th, at the 9:00 English Mass and the 1:30 Spanish Mass, they will participate in the Rite of Welcome. WE NEED SPONSORS to accompany the candidates on their faith journey. The Basilica took up a second collection at our weekend Masses on Dec. 25 & 26 to assist the Diocese of Owensboro, KY following the catastrophic tornadoes there on Dec. 10-11. You may donate online at any time. Click for more information.

SEEK is a 3 day conference that will have over 1200 college students seeking an encounter with Jesus while immersed in Catholic community, participating in Sacraments, receiving talks from dynamic Catholic speakers, and prayer. Pope Francis's motu proprio,  Traditionis custodes, issued July 16, 2021, places limitations on the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass. At this time, with the permission of Bishop Stika, The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul will continue to offer the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite at 11:30am on Sundays, provided that those who attend it re-affirm the authority of the Roman Pontiff and the teachings and liturgical reforms of Vatican II. The traditional Ember Days of fasting for Advent 2021 are Wed., Fri., and Sat., Dec. 15, 17, and 18. While a fast is not obligatory on these days, it can be a worthy and traditional spiritual practice to fast or abstain in some way on these days. See https://www.fisheaters.com/emberdays.html

Anita Holcomb, who has been suffering terminal cancer for several years, suffered a stroke at the age of 81, and passed away on Dec. 9, 2021. Fr. Carter has was able to give her the Last Rites. Anita was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul. Please pray for Anita today, particularly the Divine Mercy Chaplet, for her soul. (Click for a link to this prayer.)

Please pray for the repose of the soul of +Marie Josephine Awad, 95, of Chattanooga, TN, who passed on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021. Marie had a passion for the arts and travel and worked in advertising and retail sales with Miller Brothers, Proffitt's, Loveman's and Belk. She was a member of The Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul and secretary of the Latin Club and English Club as part of the NDHS Class of 1944. Family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 12 from 1-2pm at The Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul. A Rosary will be prayed for Marie at 1:30pm. Funeral Mass will follow at 2pm.

We appreciate the privilege to park in the lot behind the Carnegie Building (formerly Lawrence & Lawrence), directly to the west of the Basilica on 8th St., during our weekend Masses. UPDATE: The re-paving of this lot has been rescheduled, and the lot will be available to us on the weekend of Nov. 13 & 14, after all.

On All Souls Day, Nov. 2, The Basilica will honor our loved ones who have gone before us with a traditional lighting of luminaries and Rosary service outdoors following 5pm Vespers. If you would like to honor a deceased loved one with a dedicated luminary (whether or not you can be present), submit orders to Debbie Cliche after Mass on Oct. 23 & 24, or to the parish office. Memorial Mass 7am Nov. 11 at the Basilica for +Therese Catherine Giles Paullus, who died Sept. 6, 2021 at the age of 93. Therese had attended Sts. Peter and Paul her whole life until moving to CA more than 20 years ago. She was a former student of the "Old Notre Dame" school. Her grandparents lived in their house at the corner of Houston and 8th, and her great-grandfather was a brick mason who helped to build Sts. Peter and Paul. We are happy to announce that The Deacon’s Table, which was founded by Dcn. Tom McConnell and his wife Brenda, will start back Sunday, October 24th. Brenda McConnell will be leading the group, and she is looking forward to continuing this ministry that they started together. Classes will meet Sundays at 10:15am in Varallo Parish Hall, as they did before.
