In addition to donating to Catholic Charities of East Tennessee relief efforts for Hurricane Helene, Basilica parishioners Dcn. Joe Roy and Hank DeHart and our Motherhood group are collaborating with efforts in Unicoi County and St. Michael the Archangel parish in Erwin, TN, to get supplies to people in need. We are collecting specific supplies at the Basilica through Monday, October 7 at 12pm. Please drop your donations in the marked bins under the steps that go down to Varallo Parish Hall. We are offering a Theology of the Body Read Along Class this school year for adults, led by Barb Kaine, based on Pope John Paul II's book, Man and Woman He Created Them. The Basilica will host classes Wed. mornings from 9am to 11am in Varallo Parish Hall. Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish will host Tues. evening classes from 6pm to 8pm. We need to raise $500k this summer for an HVAC system and electrical updates to support our religious education programs. We will conduct a pledge drive at Mass on June 8 & 9. JuliAnna & Peter Hills delivered their fourth baby, Maximilian John, on April 8. The Hills family asks your prayers for Max. Max was born with a partially collapsed lung. As a parish enjoying the title of ‘minor Basilica’, we have the responsibility to share the gift of sacred art and architecture of our church. We receive many requests for tours from schools and other groups of pilgrims. We are looking for parishioners to serve as docents and offer tours to visitors. Click for more information. *** Fr. Geraldine DeBoer has been diagnosed with end-stage liver disease. She is the mother and primary caretaker of Daniel Sharkey, who has been on our prayer list for his severe complications from diabetes. Please pray for Geraldine and her care providers as they get her ready to be a candidate for a liver transplant. Also, Geraldine would really appreciate anybody that can help Daniel by sitting with him during the day to keep him company while she is attending to her own health needs. We are all shocked by the horrible devastation from the fires that ravaged an area of Maui in Hawaii with a death toll hard to imagine.
