Local Charitable Services

- ABIDE - Respite care for people with dementia, to help their caregivers. Call 423-756-2021 x3108 to participate/volunteer.
- Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul (TN) - Buy Nothing Group on Facebook - Basilica parishioners are encouraged to join and post items or services that they are offering to give away or looking to receive for free. The hope is to provide a convenient channel for practicing charity and solidarity within the Basilica community.

- A Catholic Home Repair Apostolate has begun as part of our Basilica Outreach ministry, in honor of Fr. Patrick Ryan. Projects are evaluated based on need and ability to accomplish them with the charitable funds and volunteers we have. If you would like to add your time, labor, and skill to our team effort and serve needy parishioners with essential home repairs, contact Brandon Panganiban at [email protected] or 423-771-1277. By joining the Fr. Patrick Ryan Catholic apostolate, you can help us help more neighbors.
- Catholic in Recovery—Meets every Monday at 7pm in at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the OLPH Parish Life Center for healing from addictions and unhealthy attachments. Visit: www.catholicinrecovery.com or contact Deacon Wade Eckler at [email protected]
- CHATT Foundation (formerly Chattanooga Community Kitchen) needs volunteers to serve meals daily. Sign up for breakfast (6:45-8am), lunch (11:15am-12:30pm), or dinner (3:30-4:30pm). They also need donations of money and supplies. Call 423-756-4222.
- Chattanooga Area Food Bank - Dial 211 to request a voucher for an emergency food box. To find a food pantry visit ChattFoodBank.org/hungry. For help buying groceries Call 706-330-4562 or [email protected]. Donate: $1 provides 3 meals. Volunteer: Sign-up for shifts at ChattFoodBank.org/involved.

- Chattanooga Workforce Development - Free employment, training, education, and social service assistance. We are equipped to serve virtually every community member and assist in overcoming any barriers to employment they may be facing. Courage International is a Catholic apostolate that helps men and women who experience same-sex attractions to strive for chastity. Encourage is the counterpart apostolate for family and friends of people who identify as LGBTQ, who are looking for help to keep the faith and keep their family bonds intact.
- End-of-Life Decisions - The National Catholic Bioethics Center offers several resources for end-of-life considerations, planning, and health care decisions. See our Last Rites, Funerals, & End-of-Life page for a listing of these resources.
- Her PLAN (Her Pregnancy and Life Assistance Network) - facilitates collaboration between assistance providers and their communities to empower women and families through comprehensive medical, social, and material support.
- Ladies of Charity - Our Basilica parish supports the Ladies of Charity, who give direct financial assistance to the poor. Their needs include monetary donations, donations of gently used items, and volunteers to sort and tag their many donations, assist customers in the store, or cashier. Greater Goods Thrift Store Hours: Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat 10am-2pm. Call 423-660-0837 to get help, to donate, or to volunteer. - Meals on Wheels and MY Ride TN — Southeast TN Area Agency on Aging and Disability provides an array of services to help older adults (60 and older) and people with disabilities live with dignity and choices in their homes and communities.
- Home Delivered Meals needs volunteers Mon-Fri (especially Fridays), 9:15 am to 12 noon at the latest

- Pregnancy Help Center - You can make a difference in the life of a mother and child without leaving the comfort of your own home. Catholic Charities of East Tennessee’s five Pregnancy Help Centers are now providing online pregnancy, parenting and life-skills classes. Volunteers follow up weekly with clients via phone to review the material - it’s that easy and convenient! Training is provided, so if you have a couple of hours a week to help a mother in need, call 423-826-0673 to volunteer to help with mentoring, teaching, office work, or our baby store. The Pregnancy Help Center gratefully accepts online donations. You can also donate needed items on their Amazon Wish List.

Pregnancy Help Center and Erlanger Partnership - HELP FAMILIES WITH INTENSIVE CARE BABIESSometimes God calls us to use our hardships as a blessing for others. If you or anyone you know has had experience with a baby who was born with needs for intensive care, please consider being a mentor at the Pregnancy Help Center. We need men, women and bilingual volunteers with this background. It would take 1.5- 3 hours of your time weekly and can be done at home. Mentoring training will be provided. CCETN Pregnancy Help Center of Chattanooga is in need of bilingual mentor volunteers who can assist from home for about an hour weekly for each client they are willing to take on, or hold a weekly or every other week face-to-face group that would help 4-5 clients at one time. Please contact program leader, Sheri Fava at 423-826-0637.- Rise UP Cooperative - RiseUP Cooperative works to engage and equip teens and young adults, all over the Chattanooga area, by providing life and leadership workshops. Volunteer opportunities include providing reassurance phone calls, delivery of emergency food boxes, packing of household goods, personal care products, and assisting in holiday celebrations. - St. Vincent de Paul Society - Our Basilica parish partners with the St. Vincent de Paul Society based at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. If you are in need of assistance, Contact the ministry’s emergency line at (423) 999-6332. To assist with their work in supporting and visiting the poor, call 423-999-6332. To learn more about being trained to be a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, please call 423-580-7252. - Volunteers in Medicine - a primary care clinic providing services for Hamilton County residents (at least 90 days), age 19-64, who are uninsured and not covered other programs, and earn less than 200% of the poverty level. ABIDE Respite Ministry, located at around the corner at First-Centenary United Methodist Church. ABIDE seeks to care for and support persons with early to moderate memory issues and their caregivers. Volunteers are able to provide community, socialization, and love through activities and companionship with participants. Each year the Knights of Columbus provides thousands of coats to needy children and families. The Knights of Columbus Council 610 will be collecting new and gently used children's coats for donation to the Chambliss Center. Drop off the coats in the Basilica vestibule between Nov. 22 and Dec. 14. Help keep a needy child warm this winter.Read More -
Our 2025-26 Annual Stewardship Appeal is to support the regular operation of our parish through Offertory giving. We are aiming for 100% participation in our Offertory by all parishioners. The Seven Sisters Apostolate is a call to strengthen the Church by ensuring that a Holy Hour is prayed each day of the week for the sole intention of a specific priest or bishop—a “holy wasting” (cf. Mt. 26:10) or lavishing of prayer for his deeper conformity to Christ. We are looking for more women to join us to cover all our priests in prayer. The holy hour can be before any Tabernacle for a set day of each week, for one year, beginning in August. During early March 2025, severe storms caused Brandon & Linsey Dean's basement retaining wall to give way. The home has been braced up but could still collapse. It will cost $50k to repair.
